Trinidad and Tobago: A Haven for Honeymooners

Being that I am preparing for my own upcoming nuptials I am overwhelmed by questions. They should all be easy questions… or so I thought. One of the questions that I get asked most frequently is “where are you going on your honeymoon?” That question used to stress me out. My fiancé and I are paying for our wedding and as we both work full time, we weren’t sure how we were going to afford a honeymoon. We want to go somewhere fun that we both haven’t been to before, and we would like for it to be affordable.

Why Is T&T Ideal for Newlyweds?

Perusing through website for one of the most well-known wedding magazines, The Knot,I noticed an interesting honeymoon spot: Trinidad & Tobago. The more I began to search Trinidad and Tobago as a honeymoon vacation spot, the more I discovered amazing opportunities. Not only are there cheap flights to Tobago and Trinidad, but they offer all-inclusive resorts (which means that you don’t have to pay for food, drinks, and activities while you are at the resort – unless otherwise noted) and the islands are home to a wonderful array of activities for newlyweds.

A Scenic Drive to Maracas Beach

The drive to Maracas Beach is gorgeous (and very romantic.) Boasting an array of tropical flowers and animals, the trip to the beach is almost as thrilling as the beach itself. While Maracas Beach is known for its beauty, it also has something to offer the thrill seeker of the couple: the “Bake and Shark.” “Bake and Shark” is classic cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago. If you’ve never had shark before, THIS is the way you need to try it. The fresh shark is seasoned, breaded, and then fried. The delicious fish is placed atop a bed of coleslaw on lightly toasted bun. Grab a sandwich and soak up the sun to complete your adventure.

Buccoo Reef

Another great adventure to have is the trip to the Buccoo Reef. Take a ride on a glass bottom boat over the reef for an amazing view of the reef and the fish which live there. Or, try your hand at snorkeling. If being on the water isn’t for you, the beach is amazing. While many people plan to keep busy on their honeymoon, filling their time with unforgettable memories, that is a commonly made mistake. So much time is spent planning, preparing, and celebrating the wedding that most couples are exhausted and don’t get to enjoy the first few days of their honeymoon. The best advice I have received so far is to take the first few days of the honeymoon, relax, and enjoy your time as newlyweds. What better way to do that than on a beach soaking up the sun and spending time together?

While there are still a few aspects of the wedding my fiancé and I still have to work out for our wedding, I’m hoping that our honeymoon won’t be one of them. If you’re like me, you’ll head over to TravelSpan.com and book your non-stop flights to Tobago and Trinidad today!
